Our firm created the innovative Master land use plan for a freshwater lake and forest preserve community. We designed the educational nature center, “Mother Nature’s”, and miles of Greenway trails and Blueway water trials to explore. We wrote and illustrated the Hampton Lake Field Guide, and trained sales and marketing staff about the unique nature amenities and recreation in this development.

We provided nationally recognized original beach and dune restoration, which continues to be a success today, 25 years later. We designed educational exhibits in the visitor center, in-room original nature illustrations, outdoor environmental signage, and corporate environmental compliance consulting.

|Make Mine A Million (M3) $ Award
Marianne Ballantine was named among the inaugural class of 50 “M3 1000” Awardees of up-and-coming women entrepreneurs. Awardees were selected as part of the first-ever M3 1000 pitch competition held on April 4, 2011, in Denver, the largest ever gathering of women entrepreneurs pitching their businesses. The 50 Awardees were selected from 62 pitch competition winners based on additional analysis of their business financials, business plans, and professional references, as well as their overall potential to build significant and sustainable companies with the growth potential to achieve $1 million or more in business revenues.

Savannah National Wildlife Refuge (SNWR) Complex, SC
SNWR is a complex of seven National Wildlife Refuges spanning over 100 miles of coastline in SC and GA. We designed the Regional Visitor Center’s educational rooms; scripted the site film; designed the Harris Neck NWR Visitor Center; created educational maps and displays; gave keynotes and led tours, many of them pro bono.

To Todd Ballantine for 30 years of community leadership, environmental protection and stewardship, public education, and environmental consultancy
Todd Ballantine’s leadership includes creating America’s first Recycled Water Projects to restore watersheds; led the development of the State’s first sustainable (non source runoff) bridge; worked on Town committees to create tree and wetland protections; educated the public and public leaders about the natural resources of the Island, and created a popular series of videos exploring different habitats in the Lowcountry. Todd continues to consult with the Town of HHI, non-profits, universities, and businesses in the area. He writes a monthly column, “Secret Places” for the Hilton Head Monthly magazine.

Todd Ballantine was honored for his creation and leadership of the Environmental and Culture classes for members of the Chamber’s Leadership Hilton Head program.

Community Leadership and Development of Reclaimed Water Technology
Todd Ballantine was recognized for his creation of America’s first “Reclaimed Water” projects. He worked with local, state and federal leaders to obtain the Environmental Protection Agency’s first pilot project approval in the U.S. Reclaimed Water uses advanced treated domestic water to restore watersheds, water quality, wildlife habitat, and storm protection. These projects continue to be successful, and other water utilities use the technology today.

Excellence in Journalism, South Carolina Wildlife Federation
Awarded to Todd Ballantine for environmental conservation writing spanning over 20 years. Todd wrote for the SC Wildlife magazine, SC Department of Natural Resources, and authored a weekly column, “On Earth” for over 15 years for the McClatchy Company owned Island Packet newspaper. He was syndicated with the L.A. Times newspaper, and nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in Journalism.

For Leading Excellent and Popular Environmental Beach Walks
The Chamber of Commerce developed a series of programs to attract tourists and visitors during the non-beach seasons. The Environmental Beach Walks led by Todd Ballantine enjoyed the highest numbers and most satisfied program participants. The programs helped this resort community grow economically all year.
