Todd Ballantine Tour of the Sea Pines Forest Preserve
Saturday, April 2, 2016; 2-4pm
Todd Ballantine will lead a guided interpretive tour through the center of the Sea Pines Forest Preserve that will include topics such as the history of the preserve, innovative efforts that led to sustainable preservation, reclaimed water, and what we can do to sustain the preserve as well as native lands and waters throughout Sea Pines. The tour will cover great events spanning the past 4,000 years in the preserve and will include a visit to the Indian Shell Ring. Todd Ballantine is a national environmental expert in conservation development, climate resilience and community education. He works nationally on federal, state and local projects and has worked for and with Sea Pines for more than 50 years. Todd has led tens of thousands of guests and residents on nature tours in the Sea Pines Forest Preserve, on area beaches and nearby waterways. Todd created the master plan for the Sea Pines Forest Preserve, including the trails and educational exhibits, and developed innovative technology for reclaimed water that has restored the preserve’s watershed. He is a best-selling author, a Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist, and a long-term teacher. Ballantine Environmental Resources works nationally, but provides regular monitoring and other services for island utilities. Todd and his wife, Marianne, direct their company from Boulder, Colorado and regularly work on Hilton Head Island.
